Some places make you smile the moment you arrive. For me, Sidmouth is one of those places.
Nestled on the beautiful Jurassic Coast in Devon, Sidmouth has a relaxed charm that seems to slow life down. The seafront is clean and welcoming, the gardens are beautifully kept, and wherever you walk, there’s something lovely to discover.
One of the things I love most is how dog friendly the town feels. There’s plenty of space to enjoy a stroll with your four-legged companion, and you’ll often find cafés and businesses happy to welcome well-behaved dogs. For anyone who enjoys travelling with their best friend by their side, that’s a huge bonus.
Sidmouth also has a special place in my heart because of the wonderful Donkey Sanctuary, which is just a few miles outside the town. Admission is free, the countryside is beautiful, and it’s impossible not to leave with a smile after meeting so many friendly donkeys. I even sponsor one of the donkeys called Cocoa, so every visit feels a little more personal.
Whether you’re wandering along the Esplanade with an ice cream, sitting on the beach listening to the waves, browsing the independent shops, or simply enjoying a cup of tea while watching the world go by, Sidmouth has a way of helping you relax.
It’s also an ideal destination if, like me, you prefer places that aren’t rushed. You don’t have to fill every minute with activities. Sometimes the greatest pleasure is simply enjoying the sea air, taking a gentle walk, and appreciating your surroundings.

It’s certainly one of the places I’ll keep returning to, because every visit reminds me that some of the best journeys aren’t about travelling the furthest—they’re about finding somewhere that feels like coming home.
